DOJ changes view of Online Gambling
The DOJ has changed its view of Online Gambling and now states that the Wire Act does not include online poker transactions.
Previously the Department of Justice had stated that the Wire Act included all online gambling activities such as poker and lotteries.
The DOJ statement that you can read here state that after a review of the situation the DOJ now believe that the Wire Act only applies to sportsbetting transactions and not online poker.
This is good news in the fight to legalize online poker in the USA but still does not make online poker legal due to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (“UIGEA”).
