<h1>What is Rake?</h1>
<p>The way that poker sites make money is by charging a fee, otherwise known as rake. In a cash game, for each "$X" amount of money in each pot/hand, the poker room takes a % of that pot. For example: If there's $40 in a pot for a hand, they might take $2 out of that pot.&nbsp; During the course of play, it is often not very evident it is being taken, but if you compare the money everyone puts in the pot, with the final amount won, you will see that each eligible hand gets raked. If you are playing a tournament or sit 'n go, the poker room will take the rake out as part of your buy-in. For instance, in a $5+.50 buy in tournament, the .50 is rake taken by the poker room and isn't added to the prize pool. Poker rooms typically rake an average of 5% from the various games they offer, although the rake burden is greater at the lower limits than higher limits.</p>

This rake amount paid to the site will be divided between the players involved in the hand. If you have a Rakeback deal you will get a large percentage of your share of the rake money back. If you do not have a Rakeback deal you will not get paid any of the rake money back. So those players who have a Rakeback deal are in theory winning a higher amount per hour than those on non Rakeback deals.</p>
<h2>Poker Tournament Rake Example:</h2>
<p>Poker Tournaments charge a Fee instead of a cash game Rake. The difference is that Poker Tournaments have a fixed amount you pay, the fee, but cash game Rake is variable.
