Carbon Poker review
Carbon Poker is one of the established poker rooms on the Merge Gaming Network, which accepts U.S. players and hosts over 8000 daily players during the peak periods. The site has recently undergone a re-design which did away with some of the limitations it had. Carbon Poker is known for having games on the looser side, with many inexperienced players at their tables. The low and micro stakes and more unusual games tend to be the softest and most profitable games. The Merge Network has seen considerable growth recently with the addition of several new sites.
Games offered are Texas Hold’em, Seven-Card Stud Hi and Hi-Lo, Omaha Hi and Hi-Lo, H.O.R.S.E. and other mixed games, Razz, Five-Card Stud, Five-Card Draw, A-5 Lowball, 2-7 Lowball and Badugi. Hold’em and Omaha are the dominant games offered in tournament format, with only a few tournaments running in Badugi and Draw Poker.
Carbon Poker’s new VIP program is indeed popular with their players. It seeks to reward high-volume players as well as low-stakes beginners in direct proportion with the amount of time and effort they invest. The monthly promotions one enjoys are also dependent on his/her VIP level. On July 15, 2014, Carbon Poker's VIP points system has been reset. Player points only work for bonus redemption and for various promotions from here on out. They are still earned at the same rate as VIP points.
Carbon Poker offers a wide variety of tournaments with mostly low and medium buy-ins. There is a monthly $20,000 guaranteed tournament that delivers excellent value and which has become rather popular.
Overall, the software is solid, with good graphics and a nice stats function, offering more than decent player stats. The Carbon Poker software supports play at up to eight ring-game tables simultaneously, either in stand-alone windows or in mini-view. The design and layout of the lobby is good. The lobby is easy to navigate and all parts of the software are user-friendly, even for beginners. Carbon Poker offers some unique functions, including a mini-view, a "rabbit hunt" feature allowing players to see the next card in the deck for a folded hand, and an "expose one card" function. Players can also attach trophies to their avatars to show tournament wins.
Carbon Poker have recently updated their software to its 6.0 version, adding many much-needed features like extra filters to help players with table and game selection, resizable tables to aid multi-tabling, table tiling and cascading, a new tournament lobby, extra table stats, time zones and game list expanders. The new software version will let players fully customize all the player boxes that show up around the table.
Carbon Poker offers good support options with both e-mail and live-chat available. The support quality is good and questions are answered in a timely fashion.
