InterPoker (Boss Media) have announced that they would move to the OnGame network come the end of April. The move is a definite upgrade for the poker room, which leaves the IPN network for OnGame which offers more liquidity in addition to its recently introduced fast folding poker variant: Strobe Poker.

The move won’t really affect players in a perceptible way: their usernames will remain the same and they will automatically become members of the OnGame player pool. InterPoker players may be prompted to change their passwords upon completion of the move though. Once the move is complete, InterPoker players will automatically become the beneficiaries of OnGame’s Instant Reward scheme.

William Hill: Playtech Acquired by William Hill

The £424 million deal is pending the approval of William Hill shareholders, and it’s scheduled to be finalized before the end of April 2013.

The move marks the second major acquisition of the quarter for William Hill which has been pushing its online presence in a rather aggressive manner lately. The funds for the acquisition will be raised from a rights issue as well as from William Hill’s 2012 Bridge Credit Facility.

PokerStars: PokerStars Acquires Full Tilt – Players Breathe Sigh of Relief

Full Tilt Poker’s players can officially breathe a huge sigh of relief after more than a year during which they had plenty of time to wonder whether their Full Tilt bankrolls would ever get to be worth more than a handful of peanuts. PokerStars have announced that they finalized an agreement regarding the purchase of the operation, an agreement apparently approved by the US DoJ too.

Besides the actual takeover and the fact that Full Tilt players will finally be able to recover their monies, the agreement has much further-reaching significance: it allows Full Tilt Poker to voluntarily forfeit all its assets to the US Government. Once it does so, all money laundering and bank fraud charges against all the Full Tilt subsidies will be dropped with prejudice.

The Government will then transfer certain FTP assets to PokerStars. PokerStars’ part of the deal is about forfeiting $547 million to the US Governemnt over a 3-year period. Once this part of the deal is consumed, all Black Friday charges against PokerStars companies will be dismissed with prejudice too.

Once the deal is complete, and the assets land where they are supposed to according to the agreement, within 90 days PokerStars are compelled to make all non-US Full Tilt monies available for withdrawal. FTP Points aren’t mentioned in the agreement. Charges brought against PokerStars’ staff members aren’t covered in the agreement either.

No Pro Poker: No Pro Poker – Software Improvements

No Pro Poker have released a new version of their software, aimed at improving play experience in a variety of ways. The tables can now be customized and players can choose from a selection of newly added avatars. In order to address the multi-tabling issues, the deck has been made bigger so players are now able to see their cards better. The lobby has been made available in several languages and a new Mac-compatible flash mode has been added.

Support has been added for all existing browsers and players can now actually choose their seats at the table. The new filters are meant to make table selection easier, while the hand histories are now easier to understand and use too.

The recently released 2.08 version takes care of all those problems. Players can now open 9 tables in separate windows. They can tile, cascade and re-size them and mini views are also available. It’s even possible to mix poker table windows with casino windows.

The Purple Lounge Ltd situation has made progress this week with the announcement by its owner Media Corp in the London Gazette about winding up the company and that a liqidating company has been appointed.

The Media Corp announcemnt stats that S shareholders’ meeting has been convened for 23 July 2012 to pass a resolution for the winding up of the company.

They have also appointed the firm Baker Tilly Restructuring and Recovery LLP to handle Creditors and the liquidating process that will proceed to the news of when and how much of the funds players will be returned. At the moment nothing is publically known about the state of its finances and player funds.

PKR has been the first online poker operation to take advantage of the graphics-possibilities offered by cutting-edge gaming to create a client which – besides making the game much easier on the eyes – successfully added a new, life-like depth to the game of online poker. Unfortunately, the added features meant that the software would be much bulkier and thus much more difficult and time-consuming to download. Those using less-than-ideal connections did indeed have a tough time downloading the PKR software.

Those problems seem to have been done away with though. PKR have dealt with the issue through an update, which makes it possible for players to register, to download the software and to create their avatar in around 2 minutes. Obviously, the 2 minute mark is only valid for broadband connections, but those of more meager means will be able to complete the registration process much faster than before too.

Rumors about Lock Poker taking over the Cake Network have been swirling around for a few weeks and it now appears all these rumors were well-founded. Lock Poker have released a press statement the other day, in which they confirmed the move.

According to a PR by Lock Poker CEO Jennifer Larson, the site has indeed left the Merge Network and it has acquired the Cake Network, looking to rebrand it and re-launch it on May 31 as Revolution Gaming. The move will barely impact Lock Poker’s existing players and it will bring about better promotions, loyalty packages and an improved tournament schedule. 

There will be Lock Poker pros playing at the new site and player cash-outs will be faster. All these changes will go live on May 31.

Minted Poker players from the US have been effected by events on their Network. Resulting in delayed payments for non US players and seizure of US players funds by US authorities, as the Network actually does the withdrawal transactions for Minted Poker.

Minted Poker have said that non US players funds are safe and secure but their may be cashout delays due to the events.

Everleaf Gaming have released a statement about the recent events and issues effecting US players and their funds.

To our knowledge, the U.S. authorities seized these funds and blocked the transactions based on purported violations of certain U.S. laws, including operating an illegal money transmitting business, the Wire Act, and money laundering.

Power Poker has moved to the Cake Network a while ago and now the site has decided to move its affiliate management over to the Cake platform too.

In addition to that, Power Poker will be licensed exclusively by the Malta Gaming Commission henceforth. What this means for players is that they’ll be guaranteed 72-hour payouts.

US players who have opened Power Poker accounts through us, will be transferred to one of the Cake brands seamlessly.

NETWORK: Everleaf Funds Seized

A short while after the Everleaf network announced its withdrawal from the US market in the wake of threats received from the US Dept. of Homeland Security, the US justice system has extended its long arms seizing some of the Everleaf funds which were destined to cover withdrawals made by US-based players. The withdrawal transactions have also been blocked, so US players are currently unable to recover any money from their Everleaf accounts.

The moves were based on money laundering allegations and the alleged violation of the Wire Act. The seizure only affects US players, none of Everleaf’s operations in other markets will be affected in any way. Everleaf poker rooms no longer accept US players, but the network’s management was keen to get the message out: all the US players whose accounts were affected by the seizure will be repaid in full.

Poker Nordica: Poker Nordica in Turmoil

After a period with lack of communication it has become obvious for pretty much everyone involved with them that not everything is right at Poker Nordica. Today, the site has communicated the fact that they had a lot to suffer at the hands of the stronger Merge operations and the current state of affairs was unmanageable as far as they were concerned.

The sudden departure of the brand manager of the operation, together with the CEO of the poker room has left the site in quite a tight spot.

Poker Nordica’s remaining staff is now in the process of assessing the site’s position, and they’re at crossroads, looking to determine in which direction the operation will move forward. Poker Nordica hasn’t paid some of its players since January, so the top priority currently is to settle those debts and to keep the operation alive.

Cake Poker: Massive Cake Poker Software Update

Cake Poker have finally made the move, updating their software to the 2.0 version and tackling a bunch of the problems that had held their platform to entry-level for so long. The update brought a myriad of eagerly awaited changes. The loading times will be much reduced with the new Cake software, the general software loading time as well as that of the individual tables.

Improvements are not limited to speed and stability though. The graphics have been touched up as well and navigation has been improved too. The new lobby layout features improved visibility and added functionality. Multi tabling is an entirely new experience now: grinders can launch no fewer than 12 tables and play them much faster than before. The whole setup draws a lot less on the hardware resources.

Another interesting and more than welcome move is the addition of synchronized tournament breaks, which allows multi-tablers to actually take breaks without missing out on anything.

Minted Poker: Everleaf Withdraws From US

The Everleaf poker network has withdrawn from the US online poker market the other day, taking with it more than 100 skins powered by the Everleaf software. The network has apparently received a cease and desist order from the US Department of Homeland Security which has essentially scared the network executives into consultations with their legal staff and the LGA, the Maltese licensing authority. The conclusion of the consultations was that given the current legal atmosphere in the US, an immediate and complete withdrawal was indeed in order.

The Everleaf network’s terms of service were changed. US, French and Maltese players will no longer be able to access their Everleaf accounts and they will not be allowed to take part in any of the promotions run by the network.

All those US players who used to play at Minted Poker can now sign up to Carbon Poker. Upon doing so, they will get a $25 free cash bonus. In order to take advantage of the offer, players have to sign up before February 29. Only US players who had a Minted Poker account are eligible for the deal.

The Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC), that grants the license by which Full Tilt Poker runs its poker sites has today issued a statement* notifying that the AGCC have suspended Full Tilt Poker's license.

"Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) has today issued Hearing Notices under Regulation 46 of its Regulations to Vantage Ltd, Oxalic Ltd, Filco Ltd and Orinic Ltd, collectively trading as FULL TILT POKER.
In addition, AGCC has issued Suspension Notices under Regulation 47 to the above named companies requiring them to suspend all operations with immediate effect."

This resulted in the Full Tilt Poker client stopping in the middle of tournaments and cash games. A later statement* by the AGCC confirmed further details relating to Full Tilt Poker and the players effected.

"(FULL TILT POKER) must from today cease to:
Register new customers
Accept deposits from existing customers
Allow existing customers to withdraw funds that are held in their accounts; and
Permit customers to participate in any form of poker game play or gambling transaction."

This latest statement means that players are not able to access the client and can not withdraw their funds. This means that Full Tilt Poker has been shut down until the review on 26th July.

The abrupt changes to some sectors of  the online poker industry due to US government activities seizing domains, has not only affected US players it has also effected non US players. With some player’s bankrolls having been frozen, players are looking at poker sites that can offer a place to play and, perhaps more importantly, look after a player’s bankroll.

Sites licensed in Europe have stricter licensing and financial controls. Depending on where exactly a poker sites gaming license is granted these rules will vary slightly. For example gaming licenses from Alderney require that companies must have enough cash to always exceed player total funds. Malta requires companies to legally keep players funds separate from the operating funds and they are legally liable for any differences in players funds should the worst happen to the company.

Although sites in Europe should have better protection for players funds this does not mean they are 100% safe as many things can still happen to a business or the network they are operating on. Also this does not mean that sites that are not licensed in Europe are no go zones. As long as they are a large well established company then your bankroll should be safer with them.

Players choosing where they want to play should perhaps also consider where a company is licensed along with its player liquidity and rakeback offers.

A few days ago the Winning Poker Network (WPN) announced that Heritage Sportsbook had just joined their online poker network. The move has been hailed as a positive development by WPN officials, one that is likely to add even more liquidity to the WPN tables.

Being one of the last US-facing networks, WPN have seen quite a bit of growth lately. They’re already host to brands like Americas Cardroom, Poker King, Fabulous Poker, BetCRIS, and True Poker. Exactly what Heritage Sportsbook will bring to the table is unclear for the time being, but WPN view the move as quite an achievement, so there’s bound to be an upside to it.

PokerStars: Rafael Nadal Joins PokerStars

PokerStars announced on Wednesday that they have signed former ATP #1 tennis pro Rafael Nadal to their Team PokerStars roster. While one is certainly tempted to underestimate the significance of the move, it is beyond doubt a blockbuster maneuver on the part of PokerStars, and a nasty jab below the belt delivered to all their competitors.

The goal of the move is an obvious one: having recently launched Pokerstars.es to take advantage of the newly regulated Spanish market, PokerStars have now successfully secured the promotional services of a man who isn’t much short of a national hero in his country. Having signed Nadal, PokerStars are now well on their way to scooping up the lion’s share of the Spanish online poker market. PokerStars.es is already the 8th biggest online poker site traffic-wise and it currently handles more than 3 times as much traffic as 888poker.es, its nearest competitor.

Nadal isn’t the first global tennis celebrity to join PokerStars: the site signed Boris Becker back in 2007.
