Kentucky to launch sports betting

Residents of Kentucky can make their first sports bets in September. The announcement followed the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission meeting, where members approved emergency administrative regulations that will govern sports wagering. The Governor then immediately signed the regulations at the Red Mile, a gaming and racing venue that is eligible to apply to be a sports betting location.

Retail locations are set to open in the beginning of September, in time for the NFL kick-off.

Deaf Poker Tour (DPT)

In 2006, six deaf individuals formed the National Deaf Poker Tour. Their goal was to bring the best deaf players together as they all shared the same passion for the game of poker. The National Deaf Poker Tour’s first event took place in New Jersey. The tour was a success and it continued over the span of 11 years. 
In 2017, the founding members decided to sell the tour rights. The rights were purchased by Matt Erickson, Jay Levine and Dan Stoddard. The new owners rebranded the organization to what is known today as the Deaf Poker Tour (DPT). The tour is currently comprised of over 500 peers, ranging from 25 to 60 years old.

“It is our mission to provide professional poker for deaf and hard of hearing players in a casino environment. It allows them to use ASL (American Sign Language) freely on the tables where it’s not allowed otherwise when playing in any other events. The Deaf Poker Tour also preserves historical data of all events and winners since the takeover where they get recognized and carry bragging rights among their peers.”

2022 WSOP new venue

For the first time in 17 years, the World Series of Poker will not be taking place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Instead, the 2022 tournament will be at the Bally's and the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino in the middle of the Las Vegas strip.

WSOP will feature the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em World Championship, also known as the "Main Event", which will begin around July 4 and will continue play through the Final Table on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16. 

This year’s tournament will feature a $5,000,000 GTD prize pool WSOP opening weekend called “The Housewarming”, featuring a $500 buy-in.

From July 18-20, there will be the Tournament of Champions, a $1 Million free-roll tournament open to any of the 88 bracelet winners and gold ring winners from the 2022 WSOP Circuit season. The Tournament of Champions will be the first time all WSOP winners in a given year are brought together for one ultimate bragging rights event featuring regional grinders and international superstars.

1. Wagering requirement - a multiplier that represents the number of times you have to play though a bonus before you are able to withdraw any winnings. For example: A €20 bonus with a 10x wagering requirement means that you need to spend €200 on eligible games, before you can withdraw any pending winnings gained.

2. Deposit bonus -  a promotional offer you can claim by making real money deposit into the platform. For instance, a 100% deposit bonus up to €300 means that the poker site will match your deposit 100% up to a total bonus worth €300, so if you deposit $300, you will get another $300 making your bankroll a total of €600. 

3. Reload bonus -  A poker bonus that is offered to you when you have already made a deposit in the past at the poker site.

4. No deposit bonus -  free money you can use after simply creating an account. There is no deposit required and you don't have to fund your account.

5. Rakeback - when a portion of your rake is refunded back to you. For example, if you paid €1,000 in rake to the poker room and the online poker room has a 40% rakeback promotion, this would mean that you would receive €400 back into your account.

An exploitative strategy in poker is when you look for imbalances in your opponent’s game and craft strategies to take advantage of opponent's poor play. In contrast, game theory optimal (GTO) is about trying to find a perfect playing style that cannot be exploited.

The best thing about exploitative poker is that there is no entry requirements, even beginners can use this strategy at the table. Players at low stakes have so many weaknesses and tendencies that can be taken advantage of, and exploitative poker is almost always going to be more profitable than GTO.

Exploitative poker is not really a new way of playing. It's just that the poker world have now come up with a fancy name for it.

Poker has a new World Champion! Hossein Ensan from Germany won the Main Event of the 2019 World Series of Poker late Tuesday night, earning $10,000,000 and poker’s most prestigious prize: the WSOP Main Event bracelet.

Ensan is the second German champion in WSOP history. The first was Pius Heinz, who won the 2011 Main Event. Ensan is also the third Iranian born Main Event winner.

The 55-year old Ensan is the oldest player to win the Main Event in 20 years. Noel Furlong was 61 years old when he won in 1999.

Americas Cardroom: Win 1 of 50 Trips to WSOP Main Event

Americas Cardroom, the US-facing site announced they will be qualifying at least 50 players to play in the biggest land-based tournament of the year, the $10,000 buy-in World Series of Poker Main Event.

The Main Event qualifier is scheduled for Sunday, July 2^nd at 15:00 ET. The $540 buy-in event will award at least 50 players with a $12,500 package, including the $10,000 Main Event buy-in and $2,500 for travel expenses. That’s $625,000 guaranteed in total. 

The qualifier takes place six days before the WSOP Main Event on July 8^th at the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas, and the winners will be paid promptly.

Players who cash out using Bitcoin are guaranteed to receive their $12,500 within 24 hours.

PokerStars: Sweeping Changes to VIP Program from 2016

A few days ago, PokerStars have announced that - in the name of favoring poker skill - sweeping changes would be made to their VIP program, changes which would mostly affect high-volume players. The essence of the move is that rakeback-equivalent benefits will be capped at 30% from January 1, 2016.

What this means for players of various VIP levels is the following:

- BronzeStar level players will notice no change to their benefits whatsoever.

- ChromeStar players on the other hand, will see an increase of 10%.

- SilverStar and GoldStar won't be affected, while PlatinumStar will experience a 10% increase as well.

- SuperNova is where the cuts begin: VIPs on this level will see their benefits cut by 0-27%.

- Those earning more than 200K VPPs will be affected to the tune of a 44-60% decrease.

A new site-wide currency called StarCoins shall be introduced from January 1, with a fixed exchange rate of $0.01. All FPPs will be converted to StarCoins on January 1, at the rate of 1.2 StarCoins per FPP. Prices in the store as well as tournament buy-ins shall be updated to StarCoins. Every current reward-form: Milestone Rebates, Stellar Rebates and FPPs, will be converted to StarCoins too.

Because the site incurs extra costs in putting up high-stakes cash-games, under the new rules, no VPPs shall be earned at stakes higher than $5-$10 for PL and NL games, $10-$20 for 8-games and $15-$30 for other games.

The whole VIP system will be turned into a Steps-based one, meaning that players will not be handed their StarCoins as they play, instead, they will be paid out in chunks as they complete the required steps.

The changes are likely to result in a hit to the high-stakes cash games, where the pros will lose many of their benefits. Exactly where the high stakes cash game action will move cannot be predicted now, but it is indeed likely to move.

The goal of the changes - according to PokerStars - is to reward poker skill, by creating a more balanced long-term poker economy for players.

PKR: Jackpot SNGs Land at PKR

Having started out at PokerStars as Spin & Gos, the Jackpot SNG format, with its randomly determined prize-pools has taken the online poker world by storm. The game is now among the most popular and naturally, more and more poker rooms adopt it. The latest poker room to pin the Jackpot SNGs onto their schedule is PKR.

PKR's take on the format stays true to its target-audience: the buy-ins range from $0.30 to $12. 888Poker: 888 Holdings Purchase bwin.party for $1.8 Billion

888 Holdings have finally acquired bwin.party, after months and months of negotiations and wrangling involving some of 888poker’s staunchest rivals, like Amaya, the company behind PokerStars, which teamed up with GVC Holdings to bring a seemingly extremely valuable asset into the fold of the world’s largest online poker operation.

The value of the transaction was revealed to be some $1.8 billion and the move has offered 39.45p for every bwin.party share as well as a fraction of every new 888 share. Then interesting thing about the move was though that apparently the GVC offer was a more generous one than the 888 one, but the 888 deal offered more certainty to bwin.party shareholders.

Exactly what 888 stand to gain from the takeover is still up for debate: some think that the company will try to spin off bwin.party successful Studios division as a standalone business unit. What is certain though is that the company’s market share has skyrocketed on account of the deal: in the UK for instance, the combined market-share of the two companies is some 56%.

Chinese entrepreneur-led company Ourgame has apparently successfully acquired the World Poker Tour. According to Alexandre Dreyfus, the fact that the Chinese company won the bid, and that the WPT decided to go with Ourgame, is a great shift in the dynamic of the online poker world and it may well herald the beginnings of the next wave of poker-popularity, one coming from Asia this time around. Dreyfus said that Ourgame - in command of a more-than-impressive database of 500 million users through the other games they offer - was firmly committed to "sportifying poker", to presenting it as a mind-sport rather than gambling.

Built on a Zynga-like business model, Ourgame is indeed a far cry from a gambling company. Valued at ~$700m, it can indeed afford to invest into the WPT brand through TV deals, event management and distribution deals.

There were apparently around half a dozen bidders for the WPT, including Amaya (the company behind PokerStars), Playtech and MGM. By going with Ourgame, the WPT essentially made a long-term strategic move rather than just a sale, avoiding a clear monopoly situation and opening up a brand-new front in the struggle to have poker accepted as a bona-fide sports rather than a game of luck.

bwin.party's WPT Poker have announced that they were ceasing their operation on June 3, 2015. What exactly does that means for their players? As far as their funds are concerned, they shouldn't worry: this seems to be a level-headed, well-planned-out move on the part of the company, so for 3 months following the official closure of the operation, they will be able to log into their accounts and request withdrawals.

After June 6, no one will be able to register a new account at WPTPoker.com. Games will no longer be available, all tournament registrations will be annulled, no new deposits will be possible and all forms of pending value such as tournament dollars and value tickets will be refunded. Players who have managed to earn a live event entry at the site before the official closure, will still be able to participate in the said live event.

All loyalty points should be used up, because upon closure, they will all be forfeited. After September 3, users will no longer be able to access their accounts. Pending real money balances can still be paid out manually after that day.

PartyPoker have finally decided to completely overhaul their intricate and often cumbersome loyalty program, making it much simpler for their players to redeem the points they rack up through real money cash and tournament action. Players will also find it easier to ascend the loyalty levels.

For the Silver level, they will only have to generate 50 points per month instead of 400 points in the previous system. Gold level now takes 750 points/month only, instead of 1K points, and Palladium level now requires 2K points instead of 9K points.

The virtual shelves of the loyalty store have been emptied, wiped clean and refilled with the new, cheaper rewards. The biggest change in this respect is the return of cash back, which amounts to a generous 22.22% in value now.

PokerStars: Software Version 7 Goes Mainstream, Version 6 Discontinued

After months of testing and after getting some 450K people to use their new PokerStars 7 software, the biggest online poker room finally decided to let the old dog die, announcing the discontinuation of the PokerStars 6 software. With so much careful planning behind it and with such a gradual release, the impact of the introduction of the new software package is expected to be minimal. For those who are already using the PokerStars 7 software, the move will not be noticeable at all. They will simply no longer have the "revert to version 6" option available.

Those who still use PokerStars 6 can upgrade to version 7 at the click of a button. Those who do not manually upgrade will have their software automatically upgraded at the next update, when version 6 of the software becomes unavailable.

As far as the various features are concerned (and yes, that includes player notes), most everything available in version 6 will be available in version 7 too, so in that respect, the update shouldn't present any problems to anyone.

What this deal translates to - as far as players are concerned - is that within the PartyPoker tournament section, a new DTD tab will appear, under which the special DTD-brand online tournaments and qualifiers shall be hosted. At DTD's live poker club, PartyPoker branding shall be introduced and a whole series of live and online events shall be created, aimed at promoting the game across the UK.

Global Poker Masters Set to Kick off on March 21

The GPI (Global Poker Index)’s Global Poker Masters is an event meant to legitimize poker’s place in the world as true skill-based competition, and the organization is indeed extremely serious about it. So serious in fact that the event is already scheduled, its participants set and ready to go. Set to kick off on March 21, the Global Poker Masters will wrap up on March 22 and it will be hosted by the Hilton Portomaso, in Malta.

Featuring a truly unique format, the GPM – which is also referred to as the World Cup of Poker – will see 8 national teams compete. The teams, as well as their individual players have been determined based on performance tracked by the GPI. Thusly, we’ll have the US, with Dan Smith and Bryn Kenney among others, doing battle at the green felt with Britain (Oliver Price, Sam Trickett and co), Canada, Germany, Russia, France, Italy and Ukraine. Each team consists of 4 players qualified by their GPI scores, as well as a 5th, wild-card player.

Bound to generate plenty of fan interest, the GPM is set to be broadcast in 5 languages, through a number of leading digital platforms. The GPI will provide betting opportunities as part of the fan experience package too, as major bookmakers are also slated to stream the competition.

Betsafe: New “Fun View” Interface Launched

Betsafe Poker have added an interesting and nice perk to their Poker Black software: the Fun View. All one has to do to access Fun View is to log into the Poker Black software. Fun View is set as default, but one can return to the regular interface at any time, at the click of a button.

What novelties does Fun View bring? There’s a new table perspective as well as 3D-rendered images. There are a handful of interesting and attractive 3D background themes, and a good selection of cheeky, pre-defined avatars. The information frame tab has also been worked over and it now sports a new look and feel.

Fun View is available for all Texas Holdem games (and yes, that includes cash games as well as tournaments), as well as for Blaze games and the Anonymous tables. It’s not available for the Survivor Tournaments and the Blazing Cannon games though.

PKR: Software Updated to Version 3.0

PKR have always had their software as their major selling point and with that in mind, it’s easy to see why they’re so keen on keeping it updated and in top-notch shape. The latest update-iteration of the software took its version-number to 3.0, and added a whole bunch of improvements. Beginning with avatar features, the avatar editor and all the way down to login-to-lobby features, everything has been overhauled. Animations have been made more fluid and a number of pauses between them – which slowed down the action – were eliminated. Multi-product navigation and a permanent file menu have been added and the poker lobby has been redesigned, now featuring new filters and view options.

PokerStars: EPT Malta Added to the Season 11 Schedule

PokerStars seem to have an affinity for the Mediterranean when it comes to setting up large-scale live poker events, and who can blame them: the area is indeed perfect for this sort of activity among a number of other great pastimes. While in the past, they have mostly stuck to the shorelines, with the introduction of the European Poker Tour’s newest stop, PokerStars are bringing the action right into the middle of the Mediterranean: to Malta.

The host of the EPT Malta will be the Portomaso Casino and the Series – which spans 11 days – will kick off on March 18, 2015. There will be a Main Event featuring a €5.3K buy-in, and the Series will play host to the €1.1K Main Event of the IPT as well. Malta is indeed a superb destination for an EPT stop: it already has a solid poker community as many professional players from the US set up shop there following the banning of the game back home.

PokerStars: The Weekend Majors: No Late Registration in Sunday Warm-Up

Several “name” players took part in the hostilities as always, and some of them managed to log deep runs in some of the weekend majors. PokerStars’ Sunday Warm-Up stole the limelight this time around, despite the fact that the Sunday Million was yet again responsible for the biggest tournament winner of the weekend.

The Sunday Warm-Up did not feature Late Registration due to a technical glitch, which meant that that it not only failed to reach its guarantee, it ended up featuring a massive overlay of about $260K.

The player who ended up taking down the top prize in the Sunday Warm-Up was Germany’s “KeyseyMM”, who pocketed $85K. The biggest winner of the weekend was a player known as “Filurn” who took home $186.5K for his 3rd place finish in the Sunday Million.

The high stakes cash game action was hot last week at Full Tilt Poker again. Millions of dollars changed hands, and there were big losers and big winners too. The biggest loser of the week was Phil Ivey, who dropped some $954.4K, over 71 sessions totaling 7,982 hands.

Daniel Cates lost big too ($765.4K) as did Gus Hansen and Viktor Blom, Full Tilt Poker’s in-house representatives. The biggest winner of the week was Niklas Heinecker, whose bankroll increased by about $973.4K.

Full Tilt: FTOPS XXV Kicks Off

On Sunday, the 25th edition of Full Tilt Poker’s Full Tilt Online Poker Series kicked off, and the first few events are already in the books. The first event was a $215 NL Holdem affair, which saw a starting field of 2,818 players belly up to the tables. The resulting prize-pool was a $563k one, the winners’ share of which was $91.7K. Russian poker pro Andrey Zaichenko was the one who ended up with the title, heaving struck up a heads-up deal with a player known by the online moniker “ekziter”. The share of the runner-up was $85.8K.

Online Poker Under Attack: Graham Introduces Adelson’s Bill

Even as online poker’s state-by-state legalization seemed to gather momentum in the US, billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson swore to undermine the whole phenomenon by having the game banned on a Federal level, and he has indeed made his first actual move yesterday. Wednesday was a dark day for online poker (and online gambling) as besides Sen. Lindsey Graham’s bill, Rep. Jason Chaffetz also introduced a bill aimed at having the old interpretation of the Wire Act restored.

Both initiators have obviously made efforts to generate some by-partisan support for their bills in Congress, but as far as co-sponsors go, neither of them fared particularly well. Graham managed to get California’s Dianne Feinstein onboard, who will thusly be going against her state’s interests (as California is looking into legalization right now), and out of the 9 co-sponsors Chaffetz managed to rouse, only 2 are democrats.

Like it or not, Full Tilt have always been the great innovators in online poker, the site which came up with original and novel concepts that all the other operators (yes, even giants like PokerStars) have ended up copying. Full Tilt: Repayments to US Players Well Underway

Starting last Friday (a day which came to be called by US-based online poker players who had/have funds stuck at Full Tilt Poker “Green Friday”) Garden City Group, the third-party claims administrator hired by the US DoJ to handle the issue of pending Full Tilt funds, has begun repaying US balances to bank accounts previously verified.

The first phase of the repayment process is set to pay out some $80 million to US players. Thus far, some $76 million have been paid back, covering 27,500 US player balances.

While initially it was said that players who were identified as affiliates would not get any money back, it has recently been announced that such players have until Sunday, March 2 to file claims to get their Full Tilt monies back. Players whose claims have been found incomplete/inaccurate, have until March 13 to re-file their claims.

Players, whose account balances are disputed have not yet received any money back either.

PKR: Rakeback Structure Adjusted

PKR have decided to overhaul their rakeback structure, and the changes they made have already gone into effect on March 1.

The new structure is aimed at rewarding high-volume players while at the same time stimulating players to aim ever higher. Those who rake up to $25 will not be entitled to rakeback. It is of course extremely easy to rake much more than that and those who rake between $25 and $149.99, will be rewarded with a rebate rate of 10%.

Those who rake between $150 and $449.99, are entitled to 20% rake rebate while those raking more than $450 will have 32% of their rake returned.

PokerStars: High Stakes Tables to be Turned into Zoom Poker Player Pools

From January 1, 2014, PokerStars will run a unique experiment aimed at protecting its causal players and putting an end to the "predatory" environment that has settled over the higher-stakes tables.

The move is going to feature a test period, during which the special Zoom Poker tables, to be introduced in place of the $50/$100 NL Holdem and PLO ones, will be assessed by a special player-pool.

For every eventuality, the site has apparently reserved the right to scrap the move if it doesn’t turn out as planned.

According to Nick Williamson, PokerStars’ Ring Game Manager, the Zoom Poker move will allow players to focus exclusively on the poker action instead of table selection and opponent-stalking, but the truth is, it will definitely take the skill element out of the high stakes cash games at the site.

Unibet: Unibet Poker Launching their Own Platform in 2014

Unibet Poker have announced on Tuesday that they were leaving the MPN network, in favor of striking out on their own. Apparently, the new Unibet software will be launched as early as next month. The company working with Unibet on the new proprietary software is Relax Gaming.

According to Unibet’s Head of Gaming, Daniel Eskola, the move is one meant to assure that Unibet remains competitive in an increasingly social-oriented online gaming environment. The goals that Unibet aims to achieve online poker-wise are no longer compatible with being a member of a large online poker network.

The new software – which will be available in a downloadable format for PCs and Macs, as well as in a mobile version for iOs and Android tablets - will shift the focus to the casual player. NETWORK: Introducing Radical Changes

Despite being the 3rd biggest online poker network by traffic volume, iPoker haven’t really been looking to re-join the freshly legalized US markets, like some of their competitors. It now looks like they’re further distancing themselves from the US, by announcing a gradual move away from the USD currency towards EUR and GBP. The move caused some concern among players, but it’s not the only one iPoker are looking to implement: in order to protect their recreational players, they’re also looking to phase out certain stakes and game variants even.

The above said moves are all part of a gradual modernization process at the site, which started years ago with the implementation of new features like KO tournaments and Shootouts.

The existing tables will be restructured as well: the seven different table types which currently exist will be reduced to 4: anonymous, ante, normal and shallow tables. The countdown timer will be set to 18 seconds. Some of these moves have some of the iPoker players understandably worried, but thus far iPoker have always managed to stay on top of the game through similarly radical and often painful changes.

PokerStars: Rafael Nadal to Play in His First Live Poker Tournament at EPT Prague

Lock Poker: Revolution Network Divorce Getting Messy

Lock Poker’s break with the Revolution Gaming Network seemed like a fairly clean and square strategic move on the part of the operation, but things quickly degenerated into a full-blown brawl. After Lock Poker had officially left the network, Revolution apparently put up an announcement claiming that they had been the ones who terminated the contract, and they automatically redirected Lock Poker players trying to log into their accounts to Pure Poker.

Lock Poker naturally took offense to the move and they had the announcement taken down. They’ve also since filed a complaint with the licensing and regulating authority behind the Revolution Network, claiming that Revolution were aiming to harm their business intentionally, re-directing their traffic to an unlicensed poker operator.

Lock Poker have also released a statement clarifying that Pure Poker has no Lock Poker player account data, it has no relationship with Lock Poker and that the new proprietary Lock Poker software can ONLY be downloaded at lockpoker.eu.

Lock Poker: Launches Own Platform, Leaves Revolution

One of these new features is the On Demand Tournament addition, which does indeed offer poker tournament action an entirely new dimension. On Demand Tournaments represent the merger of SNGs and MTTs in the sense that they feature a set number of available seats, which – once filled up – trigger the start of the action. When the action kicks off, so does a late registration period. The number of available On Demand seats is the most interesting variable in the equation.

Another interesting new feature is the Preferred Seating one, which allows players to set preferred seats and the software will automatically seat them in that position every time. There has been no further news of how or when US players will be able to have access to their funds and withdraw them as this will be dealt through the US Department of Justice.

888Poker has instituted a series of changes to its $8 FREE offer, which has been a fish magnet for the site for quite a while now. The deal changes, but on the whole the offer remains an attractive one. The list of eligible countries hasn’t changed, so those who benefited from the promotion will continue to enjoy its advantages.

For UK residents, the stakes have even been upped: Instead of the £5 deal they used to get, they will now get a £12 one (the equivalent of $20). Of this money, $2 will be transferred to their real money accounts while $18 will be credited to players in the shape of tournament tickets: One $7 tournament, 3 $3 tournaments and 2 $1 events.

For international players, the $8 FREE deal remains unchanged in substance, but not in composition. In an effort to consolidate its online poker presence, Panda Media Ltd, the company behind Dbet, has decided to bring its online poker room together with its Videoslots.com brand. The Dbet brand will thus cease to exist, and all Dbet players shall play at Videoslots.com from now on.

The move doesn’t really mean a whole lot for players changes-wise. They will retain their existing Dbet usernames and passwords. They will get more payment/withdrawal options, and quite possibly juicier competition, given that the room will basically be merged with an online casino. The new poker room will be powered by Microgaming.

PokerStars: PokerStars Acquires Full Tilt – Players Breathe Sigh of Relief

Full Tilt Poker’s players can officially breathe a huge sigh of relief after more than a year during which they had plenty of time to wonder whether their Full Tilt bankrolls would ever get to be worth more than a handful of peanuts. PokerStars have announced that they finalized an agreement regarding the purchase of the operation, an agreement apparently approved by the US DoJ too.

Besides the actual takeover and the fact that Full Tilt players will finally be able to recover their monies, the agreement has much further-reaching significance: it allows Full Tilt Poker to voluntarily forfeit all its assets to the US Government. Once it does so, all money laundering and bank fraud charges against all the Full Tilt subsidies will be dropped with prejudice.

The Government will then transfer certain FTP assets to PokerStars. PokerStars’ part of the deal is about forfeiting $547 million to the US Governemnt over a 3-year period. Once this part of the deal is consumed, all Black Friday charges against PokerStars companies will be dismissed with prejudice too.

Once the deal is complete, and the assets land where they are supposed to according to the agreement, within 90 days PokerStars are compelled to make all non-US Full Tilt monies available for withdrawal. FTP Points aren’t mentioned in the agreement. Charges brought against PokerStars’ staff members aren’t covered in the agreement either.

No Pro Poker: No Pro Poker – Software Improvements

No Pro Poker have released a new version of their software, aimed at improving play experience in a variety of ways. The tables can now be customized and players can choose from a selection of newly added avatars. In order to address the multi-tabling issues, the deck has been made bigger so players are now able to see their cards better. The lobby has been made available in several languages and a new Mac-compatible flash mode has been added.

Support has been added for all existing browsers and players can now actually choose their seats at the table. The new filters are meant to make table selection easier, while the hand histories are now easier to understand and use too.

No Pro Poker new tournament program will be available in the tournament lobby from Monday July 30 2012. The new tournament program gives players the chance to play every Sunday a special tournament with € 5,000 guaranteed and buy-in €30+3.

The bottom line: things have just gotten quite a bit better at No Pro Poker, so signing-up now makes more sense than ever.

PKR: PKR – New Software Version Released

PKR’s software has always been the main focus of the operation. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that PKR are continuously tweaking and improving it. One of the major shortfalls of the software used to be the fact that it wasn’t multi-table friendly.

The recently released 2.08 version takes care of all those problems. Players can now open 9 tables in separate windows. They can tile, cascade and re-size them and mini views are also available. It’s even possible to mix poker table windows with casino windows.

This is definitely great news for rakeback players, because it means they can now grind away faster at PKR generating more PKR points and more rake rebate.

The Purple Lounge Ltd situation has made progress this week with the announcement by its owner Media Corp in the London Gazette about winding up the company and that a liqidating company has been appointed.

The Media Corp announcemnt stats that S shareholders’ meeting has been convened for 23 July 2012 to pass a resolution for the winding up of the company.

They have also appointed the firm Baker Tilly Restructuring and Recovery LLP to handle Creditors and the liquidating process that will proceed to the news of when and how much of the funds players will be returned. At the moment nothing is publically known about the state of its finances and player funds.

Although it kicked off way back in June, the Natural Born Grinders points race at Betfair is still very much in the news. The promotion is basically an 8-weeks race which wraps up on August 16, giving rakeback (and regular) players the chance to secure some massive additional prizes.

PKR has been the first online poker operation to take advantage of the graphics-possibilities offered by cutting-edge gaming to create a client which – besides making the game much easier on the eyes – successfully added a new, life-like depth to the game of online poker. Unfortunately, the added features meant that the software would be much bulkier and thus much more difficult and time-consuming to download. Those using less-than-ideal connections did indeed have a tough time downloading the PKR software.

Those problems seem to have been done away with though. PKR have dealt with the issue through an update, which makes it possible for players to register, to download the software and to create their avatar in around 2 minutes. Obviously, the 2 minute mark is only valid for broadband connections, but those of more meager means will be able to complete the registration process much faster than before too.

Rumors about Lock Poker taking over the Cake Network have been swirling around for a few weeks and it now appears all these rumors were well-founded. Lock Poker have released a press statement the other day, in which they confirmed the move.

According to a PR by Lock Poker CEO Jennifer Larson, the site has indeed left the Merge Network and it has acquired the Cake Network, looking to rebrand it and re-launch it on May 31 as Revolution Gaming. The move will barely impact Lock Poker’s existing players and it will bring about better promotions, loyalty packages and an improved tournament schedule. 

There will be Lock Poker pros playing at the new site and player cash-outs will be faster. All these changes will go live on May 31.

There are issues with the Purple Lounge site being offline and no response from their support. We have had no direct contact from the site itself but the Media Corp corporation, who own Purple Lounge, have released a statement saying they have temporarily suspended the site.

Minted Poker players from the US have been effected by events on their Network. Resulting in delayed payments for non US players and seizure of US players funds by US authorities, as the Network actually does the withdrawal transactions for Minted Poker.

Minted Poker have said that non US players funds are safe and secure but their may be cashout delays due to the events.

Everleaf Gaming have released a statement about the recent events and issues effecting US players and their funds.

"As has been reported, certain funds maintained by one of our payment processors to be distributed to U.S. customers were seized by U.S. authorities. To our knowledge, the U.S. authorities seized these funds and blocked the transactions based on purported violations of certain U.S. laws, including operating an illegal money transmitting business, the Wire Act, and money laundering.

Please be advised that this seizure occurred in the United States and only affects U.S. players.

In view of the above Everleaf will no longer accept U.S. players. None the less Everleaf reiterates and wants to reassure all the effected players that all the funds will be refunded in full and the effected parties will be contacted in a short while accordingly.

A short while after the Everleaf network announced its withdrawal from the US market in the wake of threats received from the US Dept. of Homeland Security, the US justice system has extended its long arms seizing some of the Everleaf funds which were destined to cover withdrawals made by US-based players. The withdrawal transactions have also been blocked, so US players are currently unable to recover any money from their Everleaf accounts.

The moves were based on money laundering allegations and the alleged violation of the Wire Act. The seizure only affects US players, none of Everleaf’s operations in other markets will be affected in any way. Everleaf poker rooms no longer accept US players, but the network’s management was keen to get the message out: all the US players whose accounts were affected by the seizure will be repaid in full.

After a period with lack of communication it has become obvious for pretty much everyone involved with them that not everything is right at Poker Nordica. Today, the site has communicated the fact that they had a lot to suffer at the hands of the stronger Merge operations and the current state of affairs was unmanageable as far as they were concerned.

The sudden departure of the brand manager of the operation, together with the CEO of the poker room has left the site in quite a tight spot.

Poker Nordica’s remaining staff is now in the process of assessing the site’s position, and they’re at crossroads, looking to determine in which direction the operation will move forward. Poker Nordica hasn’t paid some of its players since January, so the top priority currently is to settle those debts and to keep the operation alive.

Minted Poker: Everleaf Withdraws From US

The Everleaf poker network has withdrawn from the US online poker market the other day, taking with it more than 100 skins powered by the Everleaf software. The network has apparently received a cease and desist order from the US Department of Homeland Security which has essentially scared the network executives into consultations with their legal staff and the LGA, the Maltese licensing authority. The conclusion of the consultations was that given the current legal atmosphere in the US, an immediate and complete withdrawal was indeed in order.

NETWORK: Full Tilt Poker license suspended until 26th July

The Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC), that grants the license by which Full Tilt Poker runs its poker sites has today issued a statement* notifying that the AGCC have suspended Full Tilt Poker's license.

"Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC) has today issued Hearing Notices under Regulation 46 of its Regulations to Vantage Ltd, Oxalic Ltd, Filco Ltd and Orinic Ltd, collectively trading as FULL TILT POKER.
In addition, AGCC has issued Suspension Notices under Regulation 47 to the above named companies requiring them to suspend all operations with immediate effect."

This resulted in the Full Tilt Poker client stopping in the middle of tournaments and cash games. A later statement* by the AGCC confirmed further details relating to Full Tilt Poker and the players effected.

"(FULL TILT POKER) must from today cease to:
Register new customers
Accept deposits from existing customers
Allow existing customers to withdraw funds that are held in their accounts; and
Permit customers to participate in any form of poker game play or gambling transaction."

This latest statement means that players are not able to access the client and can not withdraw their funds. This means that Full Tilt Poker has been shut down until the review on 26th July.

The abrupt changes to some sectors of  the online poker industry due to US government activities seizing domains, has not only affected US players it has also effected non US players. Sites licensed in Europe have stricter licensing and financial controls. Depending on where exactly a poker sites gaming license is granted these rules will vary slightly. For example gaming licenses from Alderney require that companies must have enough cash to always exceed player total funds. Malta requires companies to legally keep players funds separate from the operating funds and they are legally liable for any differences in players funds should the worst happen to the company.

Although sites in Europe should have better protection for players funds this does not mean they are 100% safe as many things can still happen to a business or the network they are operating on. Also this does not mean that sites that are not licensed in Europe are no go zones. As long as they are a large well established company then your bankroll should be safer with them.

Players choosing where they want to play should perhaps also consider where a company is licensed along with its player liquidity and rakeback offers.

Due to changes by the Merge Network following the recent Black Friday events, Poker Nordica and Carbon Poker will not be able to offer NEW players rakeback deals from 1st June 2011. They still accept US players, before and after this date, that has not changed.
